Environmental Management
The CW Wright Environmental Management System (EMS) is based on understanding how our operations potentially impact the environment, and thereby adapt our activities for continual improvement of environmental performance. Our EMS is 2-fold, consisting of 1) an Environmental Compliance Program (ECP) for our jobsite operations, and 2) an Environmental Sustainability Program (ESP) for our facilities and fleet modeled after the ISO 14001 standard. Our EMS is a critical component of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) plan currently under development. Through implementing an EMS, CW Wright strives to be proactive, structured, and systematic, yet flexible and adaptable for continual improvement.
Environmental
compliance program
Compliance is fostered through training, frequent refreshers and crew leader coaching. Compliance is evaluated through job site visits, coordination with client representatives, inspectors & regulators, and monitoring of 3rd-party inspection reports. A full-time Environmental Specialist works to ensure regulatory and contractual requirements are understood and met.
Aspects of the job that can affect environmental compliance consist of protected environmental resources, job activities, and regulatory requirements, and include:
- Air Emissions
- Cultural Resource Protection
- Erosion & Sediment Control
- Site Rehabilitation
- Spill Prevention & Response
- Stormwater Management
- Threatened/Endangered Species
- Waste Management
- Wetland & Stream Protection
Environmental Sustainability program
The ESP addresses sustainability through tracking the following metrics: 1) greenhouse gas emissions; 2) energy use; 3) water use; and 4) hazardous and universal wastes. As an active supplier affiliate member of the Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance (EUISSCA), we seek to foster resource conservation and pollution reduction while annually sharing our metrics and sustainability goals with our electric utility clients. Our efforts are formally recognized by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Environmental Excellence Program.
